FAITHFUL STILL ~ by stunning Kristin Fouquet

   FAITHFUL STILL
By the grace of Kristin Fouquet,
author, photographer, milliner, bon vivant

The moonlight illuminated Dahlia’s bare breasts. She remembered when Gerard used to appreciate them. Ten years ago, he thought her a goddess. Of course, he believed that she was just as beautiful, but his desire had waned.

Dahlia slid her middle finger from her chin down her long neck, remembering how his tongue had taken that same path countless times on nights long ago. Cupping her breasts the way he had, she resented her needs. She had been warned that the twenty year age difference would disappoint her one day. Time had been predictably cruel to the lovers.

Casting the sheet aside, her shapely legs were barely visible in the dark room. her mind drifted to the lustful glances of strangers and how they reassured her of her desirability. She grimaced at the unfairness of it all. At forty, she was now obsessed with pleasure. It was such a terrible turn. her interest had increased; Gerard’s had declined.

She licked two fingertips. he had been so passionate in the beginning: his tongue, his fingers, his cock. She grabbed an inner thigh in frustration. Nimble fingers worked and found the spot. They quickened as she remembered him touching her there on long trips in the car, teasing her until they had to pull over to satiate one another. Feeling the wetness, her thoughts wandered and deceived her: the neighbor across the street, Gerard’s doctor, the man with the dark eyes at the store, her brother-in-law. Yes, she knew they wanted her. Dahlia was certain she could have them; all of them, if only she let them know. They would take her. Yes, they would.

As her body quivered in relief, tears fell. Dahlia did not want any of them. The man of her dreams slept next to her. The only man she truly desired was her husband.

Gerard snored evenly.

  1. Piquant! Spicy, tangy, zesty, for sure.

That first line is certainly an attention-getter. But the remainder doesn't disappoint. Not one bit. I could not but smile.

Great showcasing of this story, as always Ms. *Kate.

    1. I'll gladly take all four of those adjectives. Thank you so much, sir. I'm happy my little story gave you a smile and thanks for letting me know!

  2. I think a man who proclaims "Piquant!" to a Fouquet is some kind of discerning fella. WELCOME Mr Mackey, Irish author with his heart now planted deep in San Francisco. You showed up at the door for our first tale and more before I'd even loaded all the candy dishes with butter mints.

I'd swept the portico though. Kristin's all the rage.
We expect the stomp of suitors.

    1. Candy dishes with butter mints? I adore you, Grande Dame. I am completely delighted to be in this lovely femme salon you have created. Thank you for all the sweet-somethings and for giving me the spotlight today, of all days. So much better than chocolate. xx

  3. FROM AJ HAYES ...
(Who wanted to be here but couldn't get in while making a late appearance at the Grammys to see if his award was still being held) (Yes - AJ sings the blues)

    MR HAYES REMARKED GOOD-HEARTEDLY:

Hey, Kool Kitties. Nice place you got here. Thanks, for the invite Toots. Lady Nola, perfection as usual. Read and watched and now excuse me please. I gotta go take a very long, very COLD shower. (Blows some powdered sugar off the top of his beignet at the lovelies seated across from him and hastens down the wind.)

    1. AJ, it's so good of you to stop by and leave such a sweet comment. I hope one day you and our glorious hostess here will meet me in NOLA for some fun. It would be the bee's knees.

  5. Dear Dahlia, so alone - her dalliances are the dance of her own memories. While she takes pleasure from herself, old Gerald probably doesn't even realise how she feels.

Unrequited desire is one thing, the lack of love another.

    A very touching write.

    1. Dear Lily, it's so true.

This is quite a good distinction. The coupling of both love and desire is rare or at least sometimes sadly fleeting.

I'm pleased it touched you and many thanks for telling me.

  8. Ahhh Madam Fouquet,

It seems all has gone quite splendid this Opening Day! You've been quite the cat's meow, toast of the town, as well as bees knees in the tender of how your tantalizing tale did please. What an honour to see you move right in to the room at the top of the stairs where the sounds from the street inspire your lofty, lilting mind all the more. How these international classy dames shall soar with inspiration, charming camraderies and professional sharing of worth in words and wiles, tantalization and styles.

And did you notice? In the front parlour -- closest to the brandy cupboard ~ The 'manscots' mingling in our midst are creating their own kind of dash and panache? I've spotted Col Bury asking Paul Brazill where Aj Hayes hid the humidor. David Barber just smiled that cunning way he does and passed them each something from an inner pocket of his waistcoat. Oh those Brits - they come in all the welcome doors.

But YOU, most of all you ... this is your day where your words well played speak of the stuff that souls and a'needing sexuality awakens too. And a fond snoring man is one answer. You're an author and an artist of images indelible.

    Merci beaucoup. Chouette!
~ Absolutely*Kate ... who knew you'd like the butter mints in the silver bowls ... they came from my mother, the lovely Franny.

  9. Dearest Kate, thank you so much for this warm welcome. I adore my room at the top of the stairs; it's the perfect place to hang my hat. I'll be taking a short vacation to celebrate my hometown holiday of Mardi Gras. I'll be sending you a little package of treasures. xx

    1. Dearest Madam Fouquet,

We're so pleased as spiked punch that you're going to stay. A bevy of the gals though were wondering . . . could you hang more than just ONE hat? We like to try on our personnas when you're deep into your scribing mode and zoning us out. Why, a few of us have even perfected a prime Mae West accent:

"You know I used to be Snow White ~ but I drifted."

Mardi Gras to the hilt of Moxie and Gusto, near all streetcorners named Desire. Little packages of treasures sound ... divine.

    2. Dearest Kate, I hope the trunk of hats arrived in time. One day, I will make a hat especially for you. I picture you in a wide-brimmed, heavily plumed Mae West-esque chapeau. If not, maybe a cocktail hat with a black net to bring out your inner femme fatale.

Your little treasure chest was sent today. I hope it pleases you. xx

  10. FROM JEANETTE CHEEZUM --
    {FIRST< Kate's Whisper > I believe the super-sleuth, AJ Hayes discovered if you sign in with a google ID vs a wordpress ID you actually get in the door -- that all said, we'll slip Jeanette an extra key, as she enjoys dalliance of flirtatious winks with Jacques, our sous chef nouveau, each time she angles off near the kitchen. Could be why she couldn't get in the front door. We'll investigate - put the Hayes gaze on this caper}

Kristen, this was done in perfect taste. The video a plus. You couldn't have presented your story in a better place than Kate's salon. I predict many stars at your book reviews.
